Canadian Basketball star Cory Joseph Helping Food Insecure School Children with Launch of Isthmus 120 Challenge

TORONTO – Canadian Basketball star, Cory Joseph, is launching the annual 120 Challenge which will support Isthmus Canada, a charity that provides food for hungry students on weekends. The annual challenge encourages participants to raise awareness about food insecurity in Canada by posting a photo of themselves in support of Isthmus on social media.

"I saw many children in my own neighbourhood growing up dealing with hunger issues, so I feel I have the responsibility to give back," says Cory Joseph.

Currently 1 in 5 children in Canada are food insecure. While school programs feed hungry children through the week, there is currently no government subsidised program that feeds kids through the weekend. Isthmus is a registered Canadian charity that fills that gap by providing children with a backpack of food on Friday that they can return to school on Monday.

It only takes $120 to feed a child for the entire school year.

"We are thrilled to have Cory lend his star status to this challenge," says Isthmus CEO Adam Markwell. "Most Canadians don't realize that food insecurity exists so close to home,” says Markwell.

To enter the Isthmus 120 Challenge, participants must follow Isthmus online and post a photo of themselves on social media holding a sign that says “I stand with Cory Joseph against childhood hunger,” use the hashtag #120Challenge, and tag five friends. The winner of the challenge will receive an all-expenses paid trip with five friends to watch Joseph play in Indianapolis.

 The 120 challenge runs from March 1, 2019 to March 20, 2019.

About Isthmus Canada

Isthmus is a Canadian charity that provides food for kids from who may otherwise go hungry on the weekends. Cory Joseph partnered with Isthmus in 2017 to make sure no Canadian student has to come to school on Monday morning with an empty stomach. While many students are supported by school lunch programs, Isthmus is the only national charity in the country to provide students with enough nutritious food to stay healthy between Friday afternoon and Monday morning.

NBA Star Cory Joseph Launches Campaign to end Childhood Hunger in Canada

Canadian basketball star Cory Joseph is launching a Canada-wide campaign to end childhood hunger called the 120 Challenge.

The online-fundraising drive, challenges Canadians to donate $120 to Isthmus –(pronounced [is-muh s].  The registered Canadian charity helps fight hunger on the weekend. Isthmus provides children with a backpack full of food on Friday and they bring the empty bag back on Monday.

"It only takes $120 to feed one child for the entire school year," says Joseph.

The Pickering, ON native who now plays point guard for Indiana is the charity's ambassador.

"I saw many children in my own neighbourhood growing up dealing with hunger issues so I feel I have the responsibility to give back," says Joseph.

The campaign gives contest participants one entry for every $120 they donate to the 120 Challenge.

"We are thrilled to have Cory lend his star status to this event," says Isthmus CEO Adam Markwell. "Most Canadians don't realize that food insecurity impacts one-in-five children in Canada, so for every backpack we fill, we feed a child on the weekend for an entire year," says Markwell.

The 120 Challenge runs from October 23, 2017 to November 16, 2017.

Contest winners will be announced November 17, 2017 with the grand prize being a trip for two to Toronto to see Cory Joseph play against his former teammates in Toronto at the ACC on December 1, 2017.
